Hi folks, it just hit me that a Half I signed up for last year, is just about 12 weeks out so I signed up for the 12 week 40mpw HM plan through Final Surge.

In the mean time, I had also signed up for a 5K (next weekend) and a 10K (Super Bowl Sunday) So my questions are:

    1. The 5K is on a Sunday and its more of a way, at this time, just to see how Ive progressed since my last 5K at end of last July. For my Half plan there is a 10 miler scheduled that day and 4 miles the day before. How should I approach those 2 training runs?

    2. The 10ker in Feb is just more for the fact I dont think Ive ever actually run a 10K for some reason so I wanted to try it out. Again, Im not looking to focus on that specifically but was wondering if there is anything during this Half training I should do “extra” for this race as it gets closer, or does the Half training take care of those “specifics”?

Hopefully these questions are not too convoluted! Thanks for any advice in advanced!

For the 5k, I don’t know what you have for workouts later in the week, but maybe skip an SOS during the second half of the week, run easy that day. Then just do a long warm up and cool down for the Sunday race and kill two birds with one stone.

The 10k will be a good test for the half marathon. Probably use a similar approach during the second half of that week. But you’ll have the work to run a solid 10k already, you just won’t be peaked for it.
