MCM is back!
Posted by Ian Carlson on June 28, 2022 at 1:57 pmGonna be great to be out out on the MCM course again after 2 years of virtual only. Local to the DC area, always great to run a big race and get right on the Metro (aka. pain train) to go home. This will be my 4th MCM, trying for 3:15 – always ran it for fun, excited to “race” the course for the first time. Who else is in?!

I’m running the MCM for the first time. 2nd Full Marathon (first was Detroit). I’m not as fast though. Hoping to get 4:30. I’ve heard its an amazing race!

Just curious, Chad, if you’re from Michigan as well since you ran in Detroit.

You’re gonna have a blast. There are great cheering sections at miles 10, 17 and 22-23 to keep you cranking – always top class hardware at the end too. Tag me in this thread if you have any questions about logistics leading up to race day!

MCM 2022 will be my first marathon…decided if I was going to do one, then I should make it a good one. @maestro_ian I’ll definitely be hitting you up for any tips, advice, etc.
First one…what was your experience with refreshment stations? Are they all there and did they have what they said they were going to have? I’ll bring my own gel/fuel as a backup, but would like to plan on utilizing what they’ve set up.
Thanks!

Fuel stations are definitely as advertised (7, 12, 19, 23), always Gatorade Endurance out there. They usually send out an update with the gels and food on the course right around this time of year, as it’s been SIS or Honey Stinger in the past with fruit (I’m in your boat, always carry my own to slurp every 30mins).

Ian. Got a couple questions for you.
1. What time do you recommend getting to the starting line? Not sure when bathroom lines start to get ridiculously long…
I’m staying at the Hilton Garden Inn downtown right next to the McPherson Square Station.
2. Any restaurant recommendations?
3. Do they have an issue with runners wearing a sweatshirt and discarding it at the start? Detroit Freep Marathon picks all that stuff up and donates it to the needy in the area.
4. Assuming it starts in waves due to the sheer number of runners…
Getting excited. Thanks for any info!
Chad
