    Tempo Question – I am in Week 12 and struggling to hit pace on my tempo runs. My strength sessions (versions of mile repeats at this point) are going well and I can hit them fine. The tempo runs, that’s another story.

    Tempo is always a struggle for me over speed and by Week 10, I was hitting my goals right on the money. Now, this has been two weeks and while I’m out there putting in my best effort, my legs are having difficulty turning over fast enough (and the wind hasn’t been doing me any favors).

    Did I bite off more than I can chew with my goal? Is this just cumulative fatigue hitting me — keep soldiering through? Thoughts?

      Do you feel like you are getting enough recovery between the Tuesday and Thursday workouts?

        I am only doing light yoga/stretching on Wednesdays — so I’m not going crazy. However, my legs have been feeling very heavy during even the warmup and they do not feel ready to do the work prescribed.

          One of the most common things I see is just not enough recovery time between the Tues/Thursday. I would consider swapping your Thurs/Friday around to give one more day recovery and see if that helps at all.

            Thanks! I tend to do my long runs on Saturday, however. This change would also impact that workout as well.

            On a related note, I have been able to hit my long run paces just fine. This week was no exception.

              Some people will go Monday-Thursday-Sat rotation. I coach a few people who take Sundays off and that’s how we approach.

    @CoachLuke

    Hi Luke,

    I purchased the 8 week, 40 mpw plan, the PDF does not list any recovery distances for the lactate threshold and speed workouts. Ex: WK1 2 mile WU, 5×1 mile @ HMP, 1 mile CD, but has a total of 9 miles for the day. WK2 2 mile WU, 6×800 @ 10K pace, 1 mile CD total 7.5 miles.

    3×2 miles @ HMP …

    Help 😁

    Hey Tanai

    They won’t. There’s just not enough room. That’s why I don’t really like the PDF.

    Are you using the structured workout feature at all? Also, could either set up the email or text notifications and you’ll have them sent to you based on what time you decide. Otherwise, you’ll have to reference the FS calendar.

      Oh ok. I was used to them on the marathon schedule.

      I’m not sure if I’m using the structured workout feature. I’ll have to look.

      I wasn’t aware it would still be included in FS, so as long as it will appear there I’m good. Thank You!
