People ask me what I use for supplements all the the time. I used to be like so many other people and just pick up a bottle of vitamins from the local big box store. Little did we know that most of that stuff was glue and sawdust! As I have gotten older, maybe a little wiser, I have really started to pay more attention to what is actually going in my body, especially during training. I have three requirements for my supplements and my sports nutrition:
- They have to work
- They have to taste good (except vitamins) and
- Have minimal and natural ingredients. Below are the things I use to help me stay healthy and keep my performance high. (Please note that if you purchase any of these items, I will get a kickback)
My vitamin/minerals: Isagenix Ageless Essentials Daily Pack
Vitamins: Let’s face it, as much as we try, the majority of us lack something from having a complete diet. My biggest problem is not knowing exactly what to take and when. The vitamins/minerals I take are pre-packaged for AM and PM dosages. The fact that they are pre packaged are great for when I am traveling, too. They come in specific formulations for men and women, as well.
My “Sports Drink:” Isagenix AMPED Hydrate
Hydration: Water itself isn’t going to get it done, and let’s face it, if it doesn’t taste good, we don’t usually drink it. Running as much as we are, we’re losing a lot of electrolytes and nutrients that go way beyond sodium. The downside is that with major sports drinks you get a lot of other junk. I just want something to replace what I lost without it coming from a test tube. My go to replacement is Isagenix APED Hydrate for fluids before, during and right after my workouts and races. Personally, I get the individual stick instead of a canister because it’s way easier for on the go. A lot of times I just pick up a bottle of water in the way to where I am going, or the airport, and just put the powder in. Good to go.
My race/workout energy: Isagenix AMPED Fuel
Fueling: Fueling has always been a problem. Finding something to do the job, not create GI distress, and taste halfway decent has been difficult for me. There’s seemingly a million options out there, but the Isagenix Fuel covers all three of my problems. It’s made with real food and the taste is sweet (but not too sweet). It’s been easy to get down and I don’t feel like my tongue is stuck to the roof of my mouth afterwards!
Post Workout Recovery Drink: Isagenix AMPED Recovery
Post Workout/Race: Recovery is crucial for the body to adapt to hard work and perform at peak levels. The best way to get a jumpstart on long term recovery is with replacing your carbohydrates, but also with a solid amount of high quality protein. So, right after my cool down I will take a banana and a serving of Iasagenix AMPED Recovery. The AMPED Recovery is more branched chain amino acids (protein building blocks) than anything and help stop the muscle damage to allow it to begin the recovery process.
My nightcap recovery: Isagenix IsaPRO protein shake (Tip: Mix with either milk or almond milk)
Now, to complete the recovery process for the day, is to have at least 20 grams of high quality protein before going to bed. Our nighttime sleeping hours have been shown time and again to be the best period to build protein. So, providing the fuel to build/repair the muscle is imperative.
My wake up call: Isagenix Coffee
Coffee: For those of you who know me, I am a big coffee drinker. Good coffee is something that I have to have in the morning. I don’t know the ins and outs, but you can read HERE. All I know is that it’s pretty darn good.
